When should I schedule an adult ENT consultation?

You should schedule an adult ENT consultation at Westchester ENT if you have persistent symptoms or underlying conditions that affect your ears, nose, or throat, such as:

  • Allergy: we offer testing for allergies as well as treatment, including medication, immunotherapy (allergy shots) and/or avoidance of pollen, dust, mold, food, and other sensitivities that affect the ears, nose, and throat.  Common issues include: hay fever, seasonal and perennial rhinitis, chronic sinusitis, laryngitis, sore throat, otitis media, and dizziness.
  • Head and Neck: cancerous and noncancerous tumors in the head and neck, including skin, nose/sinuses, mouth, throat, voice box, and upper esophagus. Common issues include lumps in the neck, scalp, or skin.
  • Laryngology: disorders of the throat, including voice and swallowing problems.  Common issues include sore throat, hoarseness, swallowing disorders, laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPRD), infections, and tumors.
  • Otology/Neurotology: diseases of the ear, including trauma (injury), infection, benign tumors, and nerve diseases which affect hearing and balance. Common issues include eustachian tube dysfunction, ear infections, swimmer’s ear, hearing loss, ear, face, or neck pain, dizziness, and ringing in the ears (tinnitus).
  • Rhinology: disorders of the nose and sinuses such as sinus disorders, nosebleed, stuffy nose, deviated septum, large turbinates, loss of smell, polyps, tumors.

Dr. Spingarn performs physical exams and uses advanced diagnostic technologies to confirm your diagnosis. Based on your testing results, he customizes a treatment plan to ease pain and other symptoms and protect the long-term health of your ears, nose, and throat.

If you’re interested in dermal fillers or Botox injections, Dr. Spingarn offers comprehensive skin evaluations to identify your needs. He designs a plan using injectable therapies to address only the areas of your face or hands that you want to improve.

When is surgery needed for adult ENT conditions?

Typically, Dr. Spingarn recommends surgery for adult ENT conditions only when other therapies aren’t working well.

For instance, if you can’t find relief for chronic nasal congestion from sinusitis with medications, you may need balloon sinus dilation or another minimally invasive nasal and sinus surgery.  Some cases require formal surgery under general anesthesia.

Dr. Spingarn discusses all of your treatment options during your evaluation. He carefully monitors your progress with medications and other nonsurgical treatments and can determine when the time is right for surgery.
